a lantern of learning for every child left behind.
Born from the Fire of Youth
Amidst the severe cold of winters, a group of passionate young volunteers visited remote tribal villages around Ranchi, Jharkhand. What they found — a stark lack of quality education — moved them to act. Drawing inspiration from Swami Vivekananda’s philosophy, they gave birth to Ratri Pathshala.
Through Gram Sabha meetings and grassroots participation, the organization selected educated local youths to serve as educators. GBSS bears all operational costs, provides study materials to children, and delivers periodic training to these youth educators.
Our Goal & Objectives
The programme aims to improve quality educational opportunities in rural India and generate substantial, lasting outcomes for children and communities alike.
- Improve quality educational opportunities in rural India
- Create measurable, lasting impact on children’s futures
- Expand access to night schooling across tribal regions of Jharkhand
- Provide basic elementary education and build foundational skills in communication and analytics
- Develop leadership attitudes among youth educators from within communities
- Ensure holistic development — health, nutrition, and co-curricular growth
Major Activities
A rich calendar of activities keeps students engaged, healthy, and growing beyond the classroom.
Quality & Free Education
GBSS’s Mission Education programme reaches out-of-school children from remote villages and tribal areas — providing not just learning, but a complete support system.
Lighting the Way
Every night, children who would otherwise spend their evenings in darkness now sit together, learning, growing and dreaming of a better future.
Counseling for Students
Choosing a career stream after Class 10 is among the most crucial decisions in a student’s life. Children from poor backgrounds with illiterate parents are most vulnerable to making the wrong choice. Gramin Bharti is there for them.
Impact & Achievements
In just four months of inception, the programme produced remarkable results — a testament to what happens when dedication meets opportunity.
Within four months of initiative in the programme area, GBSS students achieved the best possible results. Students secured first class grades in higher secondary school examinations — a result no one in these communities had seen before.
In the preview of an extreme poor literacy rate, this kind of improvement incentivizes dedicated future efforts to build an educated rural India. It proves that given the right environment, tribal children can — and do — excel.
First Class Results in Higher Secondary
Although the very first attempt to provide quality educational opportunities to disadvantaged children is itself a great achievement, the progressive performance of hardworking beneficiaries in higher secondary school examinations stands as a proud milestone of GBSS’s dedication and the students’ grit.
Challenges We Face
Real change is hard-won. We acknowledge the obstacles honestly, because transparency drives better solutions.
Success Stories
My name is Rani Bedia and I live in Maildih village of Ranchi district. My father is a farmer. My family is always supportive to my education but due to poor family income and neglectness of government school, I found myself very lagging and distress. But the ‘RATRI PATHSHALA’ helped me to grab good command over my studies and the extracurricular activities made me realize the internal potentiality. I have passed my higher secondary board with 1st division and all credit goes to GBSS. For me this is so inspirational that now I am confident to pursue my higher studies. I am thankful to GBSS who has let me dream for a good tomorrow.
